Rise of the Drupal Community in India
The Drupal Association has partnered with Niswey, an India-based marketing firm, to provide marketing materials for DrupalCon Asia. Every few weeks, we'll be sharing the blogs and comic strips that our Niswey friends have created in anticipation of the convention.
When Dries Buytaert came to India in 2011, his goal was to increase awareness about Drupal. Given the fact that India, over the past few decades, has produced highly skilled engineers who are making their mark worldwide, it made sense to build a strong force of Drupalers in this country. In the last four years the Drupal community in India has grown rapidly, thanks to—more than anything else—our passion and enthusiasm for Drupal.
Here are some facts about the Drupal community in India that will give you yet another reason to attend DrupalCon Asia and meet the spirited Indian Drupalers.
Highest Number of Registered Drupalers on Drupal.org
With the large work force that India has, it doesn’t come as a surprise that there are close to 70,000 registered Drupalers from India on Drupal.org, making India the highest source of traffic on the website after the US. With Drupalers in India already gearing up for DrupalCon Asia, there’s a huge buzz already. You can expect each session at the event to be full of zealous presenters and learners.
World’s First Enterprise Portal
Some of the biggest and most dynamic websites have been made by Drupal companies from India. Even the world’s first enterprise portal on Drupal (for the UK’s postal service) was implemented out of India. Also, Indians have a thing for celebrations, and with India being the first Asian country to host DrupalCon Asia, you can be sure that it is going to be nothing less than a festival.
Drupal Camps
Drupal camps are regularly held in various cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Hyderabad to promote Drupal among students, coders and developers. These camps have been a huge hit, and this has motivated the Indian Drupal community to organize camps and meetups in other cities. The latest city to join the list is Ahmedabad, which witnessed a much higher turnout than expected at a recent meetup. The enthusiastic Indian Drupal community is eagerly looking forward to hosting the first ever DrupalCon in Asia.
Commitment To the Drupal Community
Drupalers in India have made significant contributions to both the project and the community. Drupal companies in India actively conduct code sprints for every new Drupal update, and when it comes to Drupal 8 core, developers from India made a huge number of commits to resolve critical issues. In fact, India had the second highest number of contributors to Drupal 8 core. There is a great sense of commitment among Drupalers in India, which you will surely see at DrupalCon Asia.
So, come to India for DrupalCon Asia! Experience the passion and celebration that this great country and its Drupalers have to offer.
